This study has been done among swedish backpackers (age 20- 35) on the island Koh-pah-gan in Thailand. The aim of the study is to find out why swedish backpackers are using illegal drugs when they are out travelling, and also to find out if they are using illegal drugs back home in Sweden. The study shows that factors like curiosity, grouppressure, gruppaffinity, availability and experience capital are important. The study also points out that the way of looking at some drugs such as cannabis has changed, which can depend on the range of drugs and the globalisationprocess that is happening today.
